Findings: In the far back play lot there is a pile of chairs and large sticks in the corner that are a hazard. The provider must remove these and send pictures to the licensing specialist. Also, the play set with the tire swing had a broke swing, the backing of the slide was coming off and the tire on the tire swing was starting to break apart. While on site the program did tape off the area so that children would see they could not go on that playground. The program must fix these items or remove the hazardous items. The baby swings were tapped off for the children not to use because they need repairs, these must be repaired as soon as possible. On the older children's swings the wooden perimeter around the play area has holes in the wood that showed exposed nail in two of the spots. While on site the program added a material to fill the holes and cover the nails. There was a bench in the play area that had exposed nails due to the wood broken away. This bench was removed from the premises while the licensing specialist was on site.

I have used this provider for more than 6 months

Pros: The staff is excellent and very kind. They create a wonderful environment for children to thrive and the kids have a lot of room to run around outside. I also like their lunch program and flexible drop off/pick up times. My son has made many friends here and it will be a sad goodbye when he graduates. Everyone here clearly wants to provide the best early learning experience possible and prepare the children for school.

Cons, which I have deducted 1 for star each, because from my perspective they are glaring flaws:

The curriculum is sometimes age inapropriate. The projects that the children complete in class to be sent home are mostly constructed by the staff. I have a pretty mother's day card that my child was supposed to make but it was clearly assembled by an adult with a hot glue gun. They also send home homework worksheets for 4 year olds. Every study I've read on the subject seems to indicate that worksheet style homework assignments for very young children don't provide any benefit to them academically and can be frustrating for kids and parents alike. I'm not against homework for getting kids used to having to do work after school, but homework more along the lines of "find a leaf to bring to school to look at under a magnifying glass, read a story with your parents, or taking home a laminated ruler and measuring things around the house" to me would be better alternatives. Additionally, they seem to have trouble getting the kids to internalize concepts and instead focus on rote memorization. During Black History Month my son woulf excitedly declare "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was a civil rights leader!" but if you asked him what a civil rights leader is he wouldn't be able to tell you. It led to an excellent, age appropriate discussion about the civil rights movement and segregation, but in my opinion it's important to teach the concept and not just what words to say.

The other thing that I'm deducting a star for is that while they don't advertise as a Christian daycare they are religious. The children sing a prayer song and thank God before they eat. My son says his teacher tells him that God loves all children. These are nice sentiments from good people but they are in my opinion, inapropriate in this setting. My son and I are Unitarian Universalists, which teaches the principles of many religions but does not emphasize any particular diety. The assumption that all of the Children in attendance are Christian is very problematic to me and my Son has expressed confusion over the mixed messages he gets between home and school. I do not think including prayers and talking about God in a non-church affiliated daycare is a wise descision for early childhood educators.

If I had known then what I know now I wouldn't pick this daycare for my family. I don't think there is anything bad going on necissarily, but this isn't a good fit for us. The benefits that have come from my boy going here would have come from any facility with similarly kind and dedicated staff. I'm writing this review because I think parents should know what to expect and be able to make a good choice. This was not a good fit for us but my cons might be pros to other families out there.

Summed up: Great daycare! Just not for us.

Excellent teachers and a very caring staff! My daughter is blossoming due to this school! This is a school with a curriculum, activities and homework! This is not a babysitter, this is a school where your child learns by a very talented staff.
